my brother graduated this weekend from claremont mckenna college down in socal. as such, congratulations are in order. well done, boy. and between the receptions, the free food, the keynote speaker who basically told the graduates that china and india are taking over the world (and their jobs), and even more free food, it was a pretty pleasant weekend overall.

if there was one thing i learned from going to my brother’s graduation, it’s this: if you can afford it, absolutely send your kid to private school for college. you may not fully appreciate it at first (especially since you’re going to be shelling out the $$$) but when your kid graduates, you will understand. you can really see the connection between the students and the faculty and the bond they’ve formed over the years. and unlike public schools, the graduation ceremony will actually mean something to you. this isn’t to say that public school graduation is pointless, but they’re so large and impersonal that it’s hard for the day to be really meaningful. plus, with so many students, the ceremony can easily last three hours. no bueno.
but if there’s one more reason why you should send your kid to private school, it’s this:

the food and drink. free fancy pastries and limitless champagne? i’m there.
also, i have a small rant. i went to the 24 hour fitness in the claremont area and it’s probably one of the nicest 24s i’ve ever been to. but that said, the patrons of this gym must have flunked counting numbers in kindergarten because re-racking weights in the proper numerical order is apparently impossible here.

that or socal gym-goers are just douchey. your call.
